Pantry kicks off “Footsteps to Field & Fork” Food Drive

The University of Florida Field and Fork Pantry is encouraging students, faculty and staff to donate to the pantry and show their “Footsteps to Field & Fork.”

From March 21 to April 1, those who donate to the Pantry are encouraged to take a selfie and post it to Instagram and/or Facebook using the #InThePantry and tag @fieldandforkuf. The goal of the Footsteps to Field & Fork campaign is to promote the Pantry and encourage people to support those with food insecurity issues in the community.

The Pantry is currently in need of grains (pasta, rice, oatmeal, cereal, granola bars, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, etc.) and proteins (canned tuna, meat, sardines, dried beans, canned beans, etc.).

People are encouraged to donate to the pantry directly on Tuesdays from 1 to 7 p.m., Wednesdays from 9 to 6 p.m., and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Pantry is located on campus near the North Lawn between Marston Science Library and McCarty Hall.

Opened in fall 2015, the Pantry supports students, faculty, and staff who need a little extra help finding healthy food for themselves and their families.  At the University of Florida, every Gator counts.

The Pantry is a component of the Field and Fork Campus Food program which creates awareness about food insecurity and sustainable food practices and educates Gators on how to make balanced food choices.

The Pantry also is part of the U Matter, We Care initiative, UF’s umbrella program to promote a caring culture and provide students in distress with support and coordination of the wide variety of appropriate resources.  Families, faculty and students can contact seven days a week for assistance for students in distress.
